 MEET THE MANAGER
Jake Meyer, Rider’s Edge and Rentals Program Manager came to Harley-Davidson/Buell of Lakeland in March 2010. While he’s new to the Lakeland family, he’s not new to the Harley family, between he and his wife Amber, they own five bikes. After graduating from MMI and becoming an MSF RiderCoach, Jake taught Motorcycle Safety Courses in Orlando. On a given day you can find Jake and his wife riding together (him on his father's 1999 Heritage and her on a 2009 Crossbones) or playing with their new son Dylan.
For Jake, Harley-Davidson is an addiction that he doesn’t want to give up, which makes him a great asset to our team.
Jake’s riding philosophy is “Earn Your Speed”. Nowadays, anyone can buy speed for relatively small amounts of money, but learning to ride well is even cheaper, and it’s worth your life. Going fast in a straight line does not make anyone a good rider. Take the time to learn proper technique and ride your motorcycle proficiently. Put your ego in YOUR abilities, and not that of your motorcycle. Only then will you be a truly impressive rider…”

Welcome to Rider’s Edge®: the Harley-Davidson Academy of Motorcycling. Whether you're a two-wheeled novice or a seasoned road veteran, we can help you take the ride of your life.
Combining the time-tested curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® with the passion of Harley-Davidson, the Rider's Edge® New Rider Course offers hands-on instruction and real-road experience that can teach you the skills you need to get the most out of riding.
A proven blend of classroom instruction and range riding, the Rider's Edge® New Rider Course delivers the basics of motorcycle operation in Harley-Davidson style. You’ll learn from devoted instructors certified by both the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® (MSF) and Harley-Davidson to create a relaxed, supportive environment that fosters camaraderie and confidence. And after passing a written and riding skills evaluation, you'll receive an MSF RiderCourseSM Completion Card that could exempt you from the written and/or riding portion of the motorcycle license test, as well as possibly qualify you for discounts on insurance. But more than that, you'll begin a journey that lasts a lifetime.

To take the course, you will need:

Jeans, sturdy over-the-ankle boots or shoes, full-fingered motorcycle gloves, a heavy long-sleeved shirt or jacket and protective eyewear, and |

A helmet that meets DOT specifications (if not provided). | |

You’ll be riding the 492cc Buell® Blast®, a light easy to handle sportbike with a rider-friendly design that will have you feeling in control.
The New Rider Course costs
$250.00 per person, which includes the use of a Buell® Blast®, Instructors, State materials and motorcycle endorsement testing. Refreshments included. |

The Skilled Rider Course
The Rider's Edge® Skilled Rider Course is now available to improve your skills on YOUR motorcycle. This is a full day class that covers such topics as slow speed maneuvers, maximum braking, cornering, lane positioning, street strategies and group riding.
This class is open to any experienced rider who wishes to improve his or her skills. Your motorcycle must be deemed safe and show proof of ownership and insurance upon registering for class.
Our class is $95.00. If you are a local HOG member, the class is $85.00. National HOG members receive a $50.00 coupon back from the Factory, ask for details. We provide water, snacks and lunch. Some organizations, such as the National Harley Owners Group, allows for some sort of rebate or recognition.
